Guide to recording your podcast online.
There’s a wide variety of ways to now record your podcast online. The problem is most cost money, are not 100% reliable and not guest friendly. This is why recording both with Skype and the built in recorder on your laptop/mac provides a failsafe way to ensure your audio sounds good.
This is just my personal opinion from my own experience. Should you want to try and test other options you can see a full list here: https://www.thepodcasthost.com/podcast-interviews/best-tools-for-recording-a-podcast-online/
Pro’s: Simple to setup, can be recording in less than 5mins, produces good audio.
Con’s: You may hear slight delay if seated in the same room (this can be edited out)
Step 1: Download and create Skype account (Free)
Once downloaded, create an account. Adding a number to each account name e.g Darcy Milne 10 will make it easier to find your guests.
Then plug your apple headphones in (Must be worn for each guest)
TIP - If in the same room, sit at opposite ends.
Step 2: Open the recorder on your laptop/computer.
For Mac - It’s called Quick Time Player (This records audio)
Then go File > New Audio Recording
Make sure your external microphone is selected in the dropdown box and then hit record.
For PC - It’s called Voice Recorder
In the Recording tab, select the microphone or recording device you'd like to set up. (Select External Microphone)
Then hit record.
Step 3: Make Skype Call and Record
One person can then add each person to the Skype call
Once all your guests are on the Skype call hit the + Button in the bottom right corner of the screen and hit record call.
Once finished, send the skype call to your producer.
PLUS make sure everyone saves their audio recording on their laptop and sends a copy to the producer
